About
Kimiko has been restoring books for more than 20 years and established Kimiko’s Book and Bible Restoration in 2018. Her passion is transforming damaged books and bibles, to beautiful restored books that can be enjoyed for many more years to come.
After graduating with a Fine Arts degree in Japan, and working as an Illustrator for advertisement companies and publishers, Kimiko moved to NZ. She completed a Masters Degree at the Elam School of Fine Arts (University of Auckland) and graduated with first class honours. She then spent over 20 years working at the University bindery.
Kimiko has restored hundreds of books of different varieties, the oldest dates back to the 1600’s. She loves crafting with natural materials including leather and paper and seeing the delighted look on a customer’s face when they see their beloved book in its newly restored condition.
When not restoring books, Kimiko loves gardening, walking her dog, and spending time with her family.

Services include repairing original covers, creating a new cover if the existing one is too deteriorated, inside page repairs, repairing damaged spines or creating new spines.

Every book we work with is unique and delicate, often having sentimental value to each client. We will evaluate the books damage prior to repair to determine the best approach, then discuss the extent of the damage and desired result with the client.
While a lot of the books we restore are old and historic books, we are able to repair any book. Your child may have accidently ripped a page in their favourite book or your family may have a favourite book that needs repairing to pass down to the next generation, we will repair your book to the best of our ability.
Once we evaluate the damage of your book, we will let you know the methods/techniques we will use to repair it, and give you a clear indication of how it will look once finished. While the book may not get back to its new original state, it will be repaired and strengthened so it can still be loved for a long time.
